The EU and the Ukraine stand to lose the most from the current US policies against Russia, The Saker

The Saker recently posted a detailed reply, an extension of his previous posts on US and Russian military analysis, to a very good question from one of the followers of The French Saker blog.

In addition to this excellent post by The Saker, the short clip below is a complementary analysis by the Israeli analyst Yakov Kedmi.

Thank you to Iyas for the translation.

And now onto the Saker’s detailed response.

AE
——-

Saker’s response to a question on US/NATO vs. Russian military confrontation.

QUESTION:

Ukraine is becoming an American/NATO platform with no viable economy, a thoroughly corrupt junta-criminal government.  It has lost most characteristics of a state. We know its economy is no longer functioning. It is on economic life-support.

Q: What in history does this colonization most remind you and what does it present as a permanent platform for the projection of US hegemony right next to Russia?

In the context of US cruise missiles into Poland and 100 US tanks into Latvia, also right on the Russian border, how do you interpret these developments?
Add, Canadian military police running the police in Kiev (security apparatus hardening, in my view) and 1000 US military advisers on the ground with Ukie troops, and inside the command and control of their military, I see this as the two proxy armies facing off behind a mere mask.  Do you see the ‘boots on the ground’ as sacrifices the Hegemon is prepared to make (for surely the Russians don’t care who’s inside the battle zone they must dominant or they will be defeated)?

I interpret all the latest hardening of NATO surrounding the Russian border with Eastern Europe and the buildup internally (take over of the Ukie government in fact) as ominous and imminent to a shooting war to forever scar the Russian Federation as a menace to world stability.

The militia is paper thin mask over Russian military. Everyone understands that Russia cannot allow defeat or loss of ground.   The Ukies, a proxy army of cannon fodder value, a mask over NATO and US mercenary contractors and some regular “advisers”.

The opposite side does not bear any such burden of ‘loss’. If the Ukies lose and refuse to fight anymore, Russia will be demonized and the battle for more military conflict will shift to some other hot zone. Therefore, the Hegemon cannot be defeated by defeat in Ukraine.

For your answer I hope you stick just to the military threat, the military challenge, the strategic values of moves and counter-moves.  I think this situation is a changed scenario, and has upped the existential threat to Russia. But without military analysis, I don’t know if what I see is what I think I see.

REPLY:

Military planners like to have options and contingency plans available for as many situations as possible.  It just does not look good for a Chairman of the JCS to tell the President “no Sir, we never envisioned that situation”.  In order to avoid that, the military will practice and plan for a lot of situation the vast majority of which will never happen.

Disgusted, Russia officially gives up any pretense of “dialog” with the AngloZionist Empire, by The Saker

Dear friends,

The full address of President Putin to the Federal Assembly is now available online and, since this is a very long text, I will no re-post it here. What I propose to do here is to bring to your attention four verbatim excerpts from his speech with some key segments bolded out.

Most of the speech was on economic and internal matters, but I think that these four points and, especially, the expressions chosen by Putin really “tell the story” of what the Kremlin’s position vis-à-vis the West is nowadays. See for yourself:

1) Crimea is Russian forever:

It was an event of special significance for the country and the people, because Crimea is where our people live, and the peninsula is of strategic importance for Russia as the spiritual source of the development of a multifaceted but solid Russian nation and a centralised Russian state. It was in Crimea, in the ancient city of Chersonesus or Korsun, as ancient Russian chroniclers called it, that Grand Prince Vladimir was baptised before bringing Christianity to Rus.

In addition to ethnic similarity, a common language, common elements of their material culture, a common territory, even though its borders were not marked then, and a nascent common economy and government, Christianity was a powerful spiritual unifying force that helped involve various tribes and tribal unions of the vast Eastern Slavic world in the creation of a Russian nation and Russian state. It was thanks to this spiritual unity that our forefathers for the first time and forevermore saw themselves as a united nation. All of this allows us to say that Crimea, the ancient Korsun or Chersonesus, and Sevastopol have invaluable civilisational and even sacral importance for Russia, like the Temple Mount in Jerusalem for the followers of Islam and Judaism. And this is how we will always consider it.

2) Russia will never become an EU colony:

By the way, Russia has already made a major contribution to helping Ukraine. Let me reiterate that Russian banks already invested some $25 billion in Ukraine. Last year, Russia’s Finance Ministry extended a loan worth another $3 billion. Gazprom provided another $5.5 billion to Ukraine and even offered a discount that no one promised, requiring the country to pay $4.5 billion. Add it all up and you get as much as $ 32.5-33.5 billion that were provided only recently.

Of course, we have the right to ask questions. What was this Ukrainian tragedy for? Wasn’t it possible to settle all the issues, even disputed issues, through dialogue, within a legal framework and legitimately? But now we are being told that this was actually competent, balanced politics that we should comply with unquestionably and blindfolded.

This will never happen. If for some European countries national pride is a long-forgotten concept and sovereignty is too much of a luxury, true sovereignty for Russia is absolutely necessary for survival.

3) The Empire was Russia’s mortal enemy long before Crimea

We remember well how and who, almost openly, supported separatism back then and even outright terrorism in Russia, referred to murderers, whose hands were stained with blood, none other than rebels and organised high-level receptions for them. These “rebels” showed up in Chechnya again. I’m sure the local guys, the local law enforcement authorities, will take proper care of them. They are now working to eliminate another terrorist raid. Let’s support them.

Let me reiterate, we remember high-level receptions for terrorists dubbed as fighters for freedom and democracy. Back then, we realised that the more ground we give and the more excuses we make, the more our opponents become brazen and the more cynical and aggressive their demeanor becomes.

Despite our unprecedented openness back then and our willingness to cooperate in all, even the most sensitive issues, despite the fact that we considered – and all of you are aware of this and remember it – our former adversaries as close friends and even allies, the support for separatism in Russia from across the pond, including information, political and financial support and support provided by the special services – was absolutely obvious and left no doubt that they would gladly let Russia follow the Yugoslav scenario of disintegration and dismemberment. With all the tragic fallout for the people of Russia.

It didn’t work. We didn’t allow that to happen.

Just as it did not work for Hitler with his people-hating ideas, who set out to destroy Russia and push us back beyond the Urals. Everyone should remember how it ended.

4) Russia will not be bullied

No one will ever attain military superiority over Russia. We have a modern and combat ready army. As they now put it, a polite, but formidable army. We have the strength, will and courage to protect our freedom.

We will protect the diversity of the world. We will tell the truth to people abroad, so that everyone can see the real and not distorted and false image of Russia. We will actively promote business and humanitarian relations, as well as scientific, education and cultural relations. We will do this even if some governments attempt to create a new iron curtain around Russia.

We will never enter the path of self-isolation, xenophobia, suspicion and the search for enemies. All this is evidence of weakness, while we are strong and confident.

In my opinion what we are seeing a a big “coming out”. For a variety of reasons, Putin and Foreign Minister Lavrov chose not to say this kind of things in the past, but for several months already we have seen a sense of utter disgust manifest itself more and more openly from the Russian. Today, it finally truly came out in the open.

It is painfully clear that Russia considers the USA a an arrogant bully which Russia can stop and that Russia considers the regimes in power in the EU as voiceless colonies. Equally clear is the fact that the Russians are fed up with trying to plead or reason with anybody in the West. The Americans are too arrogant, the Europeans too spineless.

Unlike the Americans, Russians always talk to their enemies and some form of “talking” with the West will continue. But it is rather obvious that the Kremlin has given up any hope of achieving anything through any kind of dialog. From now on, Russia will mostly rely on unilateral actions. And since Russians never threaten, these actions will always come as a shock and a surprise to the Western plutocracies.

I have said this many times: the AngloZionist Empire has launched a real war against Russia, one in which military forces are less important than the informational war, but a real war nonetheless. What the Empire probably did not realize, is that this would not be a short war, but a long one. And while the Empire has already used most of its weapons, the Russians have just begun their defensive operations. This will be a long war and it will only end when one of the two sides basically breaks down and collapses.

On March 1st of this year I wrote a piece entitled “Obama just made things much, much worse in the Ukraine – now Russia is ready for war”. Russia did not want that war, it was imposed on her at a time when Russia was not ready. Nevertheless, today Putin informed us all that Russia refuses to submit, that she accepts the challenge and that she will prevail.

The BBC Worries That Russia Has Military Control of its Own Coastline, The Saker

6_1

Russian Commander Warns US Could Control Whole Gulf of Mexico

How is that for a ridiculous headline? You like it?

Well, it is just a little variation of a BBC headline today:

Nato commander warns Russia could control whole Black Sea

Here is an except from this article:

“Russia’s top military commander, Gen Valerii Gerasimov, has warned that US “militarisation” of the annexed Florida Peninsula could be used to exert control over the whole Gulf of Mexico.”

Well, the real excerpt was just slightly different:

“Nato’s top military commander, Gen Philip Breedlove, has warned that Russian “militarisation” of the annexed Crimea Peninsula could be used to exert control over the whole Black Sea.”

So is there a difference? Of course not.

Except one: American exceptionalism, of course.

Come to think of it, there is another difference: the US and NATO just tried to take control of Crimea via the Maidan color revolution whereas Russia did not try to take control of Florida.

That, of course, also begs the following question: if the US and NATO suspect that Russia might use the Crimea Peninsula to control the whole of the Black Sea, then would it be most unreasonable to ask what exactly the US and NATO were hoping to achieve had they succeeded in taking over Crimea?

This is, of course, absolutely ridiculous and yet another example of the mind-blowing hypocrisy western corporate media. It goes like this:

  • US in Gulf of Mexico – good.
  • US in Black Sea – also good.
  • Russia in Black Sea – bad.
  • Russia in Gulf of Mexico – unthinkable.

And the worst here is not the imperial hubris and arrogance of the USA, it is the willing subservience of the Europeans to Uncle Sam. They all know it, but they pretend not to notice.

Still, does Gen Breedlove have a point? Oh yes, he sure does. Crimea will, indeed, give Russia total control of the Black Sea and even beyond.

Russia will station at the very least one missile cruiser, several ultra-modern diesel attack submarines (ideal for brown and green water operations), supersonic medium range bombers armed with cruise missiles, coastal artillery and cruise missile batteries, fast attack craft, anti-submarine rotary and fixed-wing aircraft, etc.

You can think of Crimea as a unsinkable mega-carrier.

Kind of like Florida.

Ukraine : very ominous developments, by The Saker

This short post is just to inform you of the latest developments in the war in the Ukraine.

Following the use of a tactical ballistic missile against Donetsk by the Ukies, Zakharchenko has declared that the ceasefire was basically over.

Strelkov has made an official appeal warning that according to this information the Ukies were massing troops in preparation for an attack.  According to Strelkov, the Ukie plan is for a very short and very rapid “push” towards Donestk and the Russian border to make any Novorussian state non-viable and thus to negotiate from a position of force.  True, Strelkov does have a record of exaggerating threats in order to minimize them, but this time there are some strong signs that his analysis is shared by the Russian military, and these signs are the most ominous signs of all.

Russian sources – including the excellent Colonel Cassad blog – report that the voentorg aid-spigot has been fully re-opened including for some major deliveries.  While, of course, I am very happy that the Novorussian resistance is getting much needed equipment (and specialists), this kind of full reopening of the voentorg also indicates to me that the Russian intelligence services have concluded that an attack is very likely, possibly very soon.

I have been following the situation in Banderastan pretty closely and I can only say that the cracks in the regime are visible all over the place.  Whether Poroshenko and his US master’s really believe that an attack can succeed (I doubt it) or whether they really want to force Russia into openly intervening (which I see as almost inevitable), the fact is that starting a major war might well be the only way to save the Poroshenko regime which currently is in free fall.

It is quite possible that Strelkov’s blunt warning and, even more so, the reopening of the voentorg will convince the Ukies that Russia is ready to intervene and that their attack will not be allowed to succeed.  What concerns me is that the Poroshenko regime (and his CIA patrons) might decide that even a defeat at the hand of the Russian military is preferable to the current death spiral: not only can a war save the regime, a Russian intervention would finally make the AngloZionist dream come true.  Putin will try his utmost to avoid falling into this trap, and that means that Russia will have to provide massive covert support and aid to Novorussia.  As for the Novorussians, they have to be strong enough to stop the initial assault.  If they succeed, then the offensive will be effectively dead. But Strelkov is right, if the Ukie break through the Novorussian lines, then Russia will have to intervene.

This is an extremely dangerous situation.

Mike Whitney interviews the Saker for Counterpunch

The Ukraine, As We Know It, Is Gone Forever

by MIKE WHITNEY for Counterpunch

The Saker is an ex-military analyst who was born in Europe to a family of Russian refugees. He now lives in Florida where he writes the Vineyard of the Saker blog and is a regular contributor to Russia Insider. The international community of Saker Blogs includes, besides the original Saker blog, French, German, Russian, Oceania and Serbian members and will soon include a Latin American member. – Mike Whitney

Mike Whitney: Is the United States responsible for the troubles in Ukraine?

The Saker: Yes, absolutely, there’s no doubt about it. While it’s true that the Ukrainian people were unhappy with the corrupt Yanukovich regime, the coup itself was definitely CIA orchestrated. The EU was also involved, especially Germany, but they didn’t play nearly as big a role as the U.S. The taped phone messages of (US Undersecretary of State) Victoria Nuland show who was really calling the shots behind the scenes.

Mike Whitney: What role did the Obama administration play in Kiev’s decision to launch a war on its own people in the east of Ukraine?

The Saker: A central role. You have to understand that there is no “Ukrainian” power in Kiev. Poroshenko is 100% US-run as are the people around him. The head of the notorious Ukrainian secret police (the SBU), Valentin Nalivaichenko, is a known CIA agent. It’s also true that the US refers to Poroshenko “our Ukraine insider”. All of his so called “decisions” are actually made by U.S. officials in Kiev. As for Poroshenko’s speech to Congress a few weeks ago, that was obviously written by an American.

Mike Whitney: The separatists in the East have been very successful in repelling the Ukrainian army and their Neo Nazi counterparts in the security services. What role has Russia played in assisting the Novorussia militias?

Serbian Saker Blog Joins The Saker Community

Dear friends,

I have the pleasure to inform our community that the Serbian Saker Blog is now officially online at the following address:

http://www.thesakersrpski.rs/

This blog also contains a large archives of my previous articles all translated into Serbian.

I am especially honored and delighted to welcome the entire Serbian Saker Blog Team to the Saker community because of the obvious (and frightening) similarities between the events of the US/NATO war against Serbia in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo with what is taking place today in the Ukraine.  In fact, there were Serbian “Krajinas” in Croatia (and Bosnia) and the Serbian language toponym krajina (meaning “frontier” from krai “region/border”) has exactly the same root and usage as the Russian ukraina (u meaning “by the” or “near the” and kraina meaning border/edge/region). Finally, US officials have now admitted that the real purpose of the AngloZionist war on Serbia was to send a message to Russia “disobey us and we will do the same to you”, which is what they are doing now, of course.  The war against Serbia was just a rehearsal for the current war against Russia.

Russians, Ukrainians and all those who truly care for the truth and who reject the Empire’s lies-filled narrative about the wars against Serbia and Russia have a lot to learn form the Serbian experience and I hope that thanks to the Serbian Saker Blog a lot of Serbs will join the Saker community and the rest of the anti-imperialist movement.

I consider restoring the historical truth about the AngloZionist wars against the Serbian people as a personal life mission of mine and an integral part of this blog’s purpose.

Slow motion genocide and the Russian response

The current US/EU Nazi government (At Oceania we call a spade a spade) in Ukraine has not been ushered through the gates of hell into oblivion. It will be one day but it has not been so far.

What this has meant is that the wholesale murder of civilians, destruction of infrastructure and torture has been brought to Ukraine from Brussels and Fashington.

Impaledsoul
An anti-fascist civilian impaled by Nazi thugs in Kharkov on 30 Sep 2014.

The US has not succeeded and will not succeed in its genocide of the Russian people, be they in Ukraine or in Russia proper. The masses are not blind and they see what is happening but they are powerless and helpless. When you feel the need to criticise them for inaction then do understand that they are being butchered by US/EU funded Nazi thugs.

Regardless of where you are on the political spectrum (assuming you are anti-fascist) the one reality is that this Nazi government must be annihilated in Ukraine. You cannot have a rabidly russophobic and genocidal government in your backyard. Much has been said on how this might come about and The Saker has published some good analysis by M.Khazin and the foresight displayed by Sergey Glazyev is as usual excellent food for thought.

I would, though, urge you to read one of the best analysis we have read so far on the long game that Russia is playing. This analysis comes from The Saker himself. I believe it really addresses those crucial questions that have been lingering.

The Russian response to a double declaration of war
The context: a double declaration of war

Listening to Poroshenko a few days ago and then to Obama at the UNGA can leave no doubt whatsoever about the fact that the AngloZionist Empire is at war with Russia.  Yet many believe that the Russian response to this reality is inadequate.  Likewise, there is a steady stream of accusations made against Putin about Russia’s policy towards the crisis in the Ukraine.  What I propose to do here is to offer a few basic reminders about Putin, his obligations and his options.

First and foremost, Putin was never elected to be the world’s policeman or savior, he was only elected to be president of Russia.  Seems obvious, but yet many seem to assume that somehow Putin is morally obliged to do something to protect Syria, Novorussia or any other part of our harassed world.  This is not so.  Yes, Russia is the de facto leader of the BRICS and SCO countries, and Russia accepts that fact, but Putin has the moral and legal obligation to care for his own people first.

Second, Russia is now officially in the crosshairs of the AngloZionist Empire which includes not only 3 nuclear countries (US, UK, FR) but also the most powerful military force (US+NATO) and the world’s biggest economies (US+EU).  I think that we can all agree that the threat posed by such an Empire is not trivial and that Russia is right in dealing with it very carefully.

The “Russia Insider” project is officially launched today!

The alternative media community is continuously evolving, growing in mass appeal and making a difference. This is not the internet of the 1990s, the audience is mature, the world has changed and reality has hit people straight centre in the face.

The economic climate globally has given people the shock that was needed to pull them out of the trance-like hypnosis from the Ministry of  Truth. The NY Times, Washington Post, CNN, BBC and other propaganda outlets have effectively written themselves out of existence. No sane individual can now claim, with a straight face, that the western “press” reports objectively. The lies are so blatant that they would make Goebbels crack open a bottle of champaign in celebration of his vision.

With war being waged on Russian interests right from the Middle East to Ukraine, this latest project has come live at the right time.

Originally announced at The Saker and copied below.

————————————————————————————-

I am delighted to announce that I have been contacted by the editors of the new website Russia Insider and that I have accepted their offer to collaborate with them.  I did agree to this not only because I knew several of the excellent contributors to this project, but also because I truly believe that it is a much needed, timely and very important project (please see Russia Insider’s “About” page for more details and background)

Check out today’s CrossTalk where the Editor in Chief of Russia Insider,  Charles Bausman, is one of the guests:

A very good project, with very good people doing something very important – how could I refuse?!  I gratefully accepted.

I strongly believe that bringing the true story about modern Russia is crucial, especially for the English speaking world.  At a time when everything Russian is demonized and some crazy, but powerful, maniacs are dreaming about yet another war (Cold or Hot) against Russia, it is absolutely crucial to deconstruct the warmongering anti-Russian propaganda and to replace it with a much more complex and nuanced understanding of the true Russia, not the fictional Land of Mordor the Neocons are trying to portray.

There have been many conflicts between the West and Russia in the past, but for the first time, in the age of the Internet, we – in the West and in Russia – have the means to stop the current one and to prevent it from turning into yet another a full-scale continental war.  We need to fight that “information war” and we need to win it.

obama_vs_putin_text2

Please help us fight this war and contribute in any way you can: first and foremost, spread the word about Russia Insider on the social media, post links to the Russia Insider homepage on your blogs and websites, subscribe to the Russia Insider YouTube channel, subscribe to the newsletter (on the homepage), help us organize a crowdfunding for the site or join our community of contributors.  Last, but not least, sign up for the RSS feed and make sure to check the Russia Insider website at least once a day.

I am absolutely delighted and honored to be associated with this project which I believe will become a key player on the international scene.

Kind regards,

The Saker

Erase and Rewind – The MH17 Tragedy

Erase & Rewind is the name of the game. Here is how it goes:

Commit Crime -> Blame Russia & Ignore Evidence -> Release False Evidence & Blame Russia -> Ignore Further Evidence & Erase Incident -> Commit Crime…

The Saker is playing his part in making sure that the world is not again taken for a ride. Do your part and spread the word.

Original article: The Vineyard of the Saker

AE

We cannot let MH17 be forgotten – Please help us!

Dear friends,

Those who organized the MH17 false flag have now clearly given the instruction to their propaganda machine (aka MSM) to forget about this tragedy and to pretend like it never happened.  Sure, there are a few courageous sources, such as the World Socialist Web Site, which do ask the right question Why have the media and Obama administration gone silent on MH17?, but even most of the “alternative” media has really turned the page and forgotten about MH17.

We cannot allow this.

The Russian Team and the website Polismi in Russia have jointly translated the full detailed expert analysis of the MH17 downing into Russian and they are now asking for our – *your* – help in disseminating it in the Russian media worldwide and with all our – *your* – Russian-speaking friends, relatives and colleagues.   Here is their appeal:

The full document in Russian is available here:

http://www.vineyardsaker.ru/?p=749

I ask you to do everything you can to share this document as widely as possible.   One of the most disgusting and outrageous things about this false flag massacre is that most of our elites know what truly happened, but that they apparently have all agreed to cover it up, each one for their own reasons.  We cannot allow that to happen and we have to continue to demand answers and full access to all the data, including the recordings of the conversations between MH17 and the Kiev ATC, all the flight data recorders, and all the signal and radar data held by Russia, the USA, NATO, and the junta in Kiev.

Please join us in demanding that the full truth be told about the murder of the people of MH17.

Send the link above, along with this appeal, to all your Russian speaking friends, post it on your blogs, websites, Twitter and Facebook pages, share it on mailing lists, send it to your local Russian newspaper or radio station, etc.   We need maximal exposure and visibility to force those in power to react.

Many thanks,

The Saker

PS: a new, updated, version of the video analysis made by John Martin about MH17 which I had posted here is now available here: http://youtu.be/czqmeMhWyFo make sure to also check it out!
