“Frederick John Westcott (26 March 1866 – 18 September 1941), best known by his stage name Fred Karno, was an English theatre impresario of the British music hall. He is credited with popularizing the custard-pie-in-the-face gag. During the 1890s, in order to circumvent stage censorship, Karno developed a form of sketch comedy without dialogue. Cheeky authority-defying playlets such as “Jail Birds” (1896) in which prisoners play tricks on warders and “Early Birds” (1903), where a small man defeats a large ruffian in London’s East End, can be seen as precursors of movie silent comedy. American film producer Hal Roach stated: “Fred Karno is not only a genius, he is the man who originated slapstick comedy. We in Hollywood owe much to him.” Among the music hall comedians who worked for him were Charlie Chaplin and his understudy, Arthur Jefferson, who later adopted the name of Stan Laurel. These were part of what was known as “Fred Karno’s Army”, a phrase still occasionally used in the UK to refer to a chaotic group or organisation. The phrase was also adapted by British soldiers into a trench song in the First World War, as a parody of, or rather to the tune of, the hymn The Church’s One Foundation … “. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Karno.

Writing again from Occupied France, I’ve just watched ‘The Anna Tuv Story’ (q.v.) She lost an arm, her husband Yuriy, and their 11 year old daughter Katya when, in May 2015, their house in Gorlovka was shelled, probably by Ukraine’s 1st howitzer division. But with ‘soundbites’ scripted mostly by the swivel-eyed hasbara merchants, the news was never reported. Neither were the 800 artillery rounds falling on Donetsk to greet the UK’s visiting Defence Secretary. As London and Washington manifested their support for putschists in Ukraine and Brazil, police, journalists and protestors heavily outnumbered pro-Israeli ‘pleasure seekers’ at the Paris Plages fiasco.

The arms trade is booming. With their ham acting and weasel words from White House Apparatchiks, la Mère Hidalgo in Paris, le Père Porochenko and the Right Honourable Tory MP Michael Fallon in Kiev fanning the flames of hatred and intolerance, farce competes with tragedy to sharpen our appetite for truth, justice and peace. The threatened coup d’Etat to oust Dilma Rousseff is deeply disturbing. In a rare moment of optimism, I had considered renaming my, as yet unpublished, research «La décheance du peuple élu – à quand la fin d’une élite autoproclamée ?». But can one translate that into English ? Is there any reason to warrant the belief that we, or any other dissident group, make any impact on this loathsome, repressively Permissive Society of ours ?

Clinton, Juppé, Erdoğan, Daesh and the PKK, by Thierry Meyssan

Source: Voltaire Network

The resumption of the repression of Kurds in Turkey is nothing more than a consequence of the impossible task of implementing the Juppé-Wright plan of 2011. While it was easy to deploy Daesh in the Syrian desert and the provinces of Niniveh and d’al-Anbar (Iraq), which are mostly Sunnite, it proved to be impossible to take control of the Kurdish populations of Syria. In order to realise his dream of a Kurdistan outside of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has no other choice but civil war.

When they took power in Ankara in 2003, the Islamist party AKP modified Turkey’s strategic priorities. Rather than using reports on the post-« Desert Storm » balance of power, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan harboured the ambition of freeing his country from the isolation it has known since the end of the Ottoman Empire. Based on analyses provided by his advisor, Professor Ahmet Davutoğlu, he advocated solving century-old problems with Turkey’s neighbours, and becoming progressively the inevitable regional mediator. In order to do so, Turkey had to become a political model and build relations with his Arab partners, without losing its alliance with Israël.

This policy, known as « zero problem », began sucessfully at first.Ankara no longer feared Damascus and its support for the PKK, and also asked Syria for help in negotiating an exit. In October 2006, the Kurdish party declared a unilateral truce and began negotiations with the Erdoğan government. In May 2008, Ankara organised indirect negotiations between Damascus and Tel-Aviv, the first talks since Ehud Barack’s rejection of the Bill Clinton / Hafez el-Assad plan. But President Bachar el-Assad withdrew from the discussions after Israël attacked Gaza in December 2009.

Realising that because of the Palestinian conflict, it was impossible to maintain good relations with all the states in the region, Ankara chose to support the Palestinians against Israël. This was the period of the Davos and Freedom Flotilla episodes. Backed by vast popular support in the Muslim world, Ankara approached Teheran and accepted, in November 2010, to participate in a Turkey-Iran-Iraq-Syria common market. Visas were repealed ; the rights of the Customs were considerably reduced ; a consortium was created to manage the oil and gas pipe-lines ; an authority was created to enable the management of water ressources. The overall structure looked so inviting that Lebanon and Jordan presented their candidacy. Sustainable peace seemed possible for the Levant.

The Triumph of Thierry Meyssan, by Paul Matthews

«When, on September 6, 2006, President Bush admitted to the existence of the secret torture program of the CIA, he defended the practice, arguing that it had yielded information that saved lives. It was based on the false reports of the CIA and he was unaware that it manufactured evidence instead of searching for it. From that point, the Atlanticist media descended into barbarism and debated the merits of torture by presenting it as a necessary evil». The Congressional report on torture confirms that Al Qaeda was not involved in the attacks of September 11 – Thierry Meyssan : 15 Decembre 2014 (Cf. infra).

The founding chairman of the Voltaire Network multilingual website has finally come into his own. In two articles in 2009 [1] and 2014 [2] he highlights the rôle of a certain “US academic”, Martin Seligman, relating to the real nature of the Camp Delta «conditioning» and detention centre at Guantánamo Naval Base. All of which has to be seen in the light of the recently published US Congressional report on the secret CIA torture programme and concerning a vast criminal operation, known officially as «Extraordinary Rendition» ie the system for kidnapping and sequestering people from all over the world put in place by the CIA and the US Navy during the presidential terms of office of both William Jefferson Clinton and George Walker Bush.

Some would use the word apotheosis after the years the French author and investigative journalist spent in the wilderness after publishing 11 Septembre : l’Effroyable Imposture (9/11 : The Big Lie) and a companion volume Pentagate. English-language editions of both now republished by USA Books.  Here is the man who has courageously defended in public the governments of Muammar Gaddafi  and of Bashar Assad during a so-called Arab Spring [3] and whose website helps expose numerous scandals including Operazione Gladio [4].

Rightly observing that «real-time information has been paradoxically transformed into a show in which the truth is incidental» [5] he is anticipated by Karl Marx (alienation theory and commodity fetishism) and Guy Debord (Society of Spectacle). But in an existence crucified increasingly by money worship, Mother Nature’s commodification is yielding an abundance of stigmata inconceivible before the twenty-first century.

Nuke Deal Inches Ahead as US-Iran Play Information War, by Pepe Escobar

VIENNA – So today is not D-Day. No landing in post-Wall of Mistrust territory. A nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 won’t be clinched today – for a number of very complex reasons, way beyond the vicious media information war; not least finding the absolute, exact wording in every line of 85 pages of text.

It still amounts, for all the bluster and the dramatic turnarounds, to a question of trust. Rather, breaching the 36-year-plus Wall of Mistrust between Washington and Tehran.

There are breakthroughs, of course. On the status of the Fordo research site, for instance, for the first time both sides reached an agreement. Compare it to the cosmic gap — exacerbated by the American wordplay — on the gradual lifting of sanctions.

Middle East: The predictable defeat of France, by Thierry Meyssan

While the signature of the agreement between Washington and Teheran draws ever closer, Thierry Meyssan retraces and analyses the policies of François Hollande in the Near East which uphold his support for the Gulf monarchies and Israeli apartheid. Indisputably, the author demonstrates the fact that this policy, which is contrary to the values of the Republic and the interests of the Nation, exclusively serves the personal ambitions of a few individuals and the social group they represent.

The 6th July 2012, the war criminal Abou Saleh (Brigade Farouk) was the special guest of President François Hollande (the young man facing the camera, seated at the side of the stage to the right of the photo). He had directed the Islamic Emirate of Baba Amr and ordered more than 150 people to have their throats cut in public.

He had directed the Islamic Emirate of Baba Amr and ordered more than 150 people to have their throats cut in public.

Elected in May 2012 as President of the French Republic, François Hollande has imposed on his country an entirely new foreign policy orientation. The fact that he presented himself as a left-wing politician has hidden from the eyes of his fellow citizens that this high-ranking civil servant has turned his back on the interests of the Nation, its history and its culture, and placed the state in the service of a tiny group of « upper-class » neo-conservatives.

The change of spring 2012

- Although during his electoral campaign he seemed open to all forms of analysis, surrounding himself with several competing study groups, he was obliged to lower his mask as soon as he assumed power on the 15th of May. He therefore placed his mandate under the auspices of Jules Ferry. With subtlety, he claimed to honour the founder of obligatory secular schooling, but not the socialist theoretician of colonisation. However, Ferry’s secularism was not aimed at guaranteeing freedom of thought, but at taking children out of the hands of the Catholic church and training them, under the authority of the « hussards noirs », to become cannon fodder for his colonial expeditions.

Not much has filtered out of the Medusa Merkel/General Hollande/Vlad tense threesome in Moscow.

And yet John Kerry, as usual, is already lying through his teeth about their trip to the Kremlin.

He said Putin had sent “a couple of ideas” to France and Germany, and Merkel/Hollande were responding.

Paris Charlie – the Shock Doctrine par Excellence, by Peter Koenig

Source: Global Research

On 12 January the French Parliament approved with almost unanimity – with one abstention only – the budget for France’s continuous and enlarged involvement in the new war on Iraq, a new war engagement led by Washington and supported by its vassals, UK, Canada, Australia and France. Aircraft carriers and troops were immediately mobilized, not even losing a day. Doesn’t that conspicuously smell of an earlier preparation, just waiting for that crucial and appropriate event, prompting parliamentary approval?

At the same time France lawmakers agreed to display 10,000 troops throughout the country to protect ‘vulnerable places’; spying on citizens, for their protection takes on new forms and formats. A direct reaction to the attack on Charlie Hebdo on January 7 and the assault on a kosher supermarket on January 9? – Killing 17 people in all? Is that it?

French Ministers of the Interior and of Defense have advanced their wish of substantially increased respective police and defense budgets, when the 2016-2017 allocations are being discussed later this year. No doubt they will get their way.

“Je suis Charlie” ? Or a pact with the devil and a fool’s bargain, by Paul Matthews

“Internally, French society is not “threatened” by a Muslim presence – although it is indeed threatened by exacerbated Islamophobia. The key problem is that France does not know how to integrate its Muslim population, something that allows what sociologist Farhad Khosrokhavar describes as “terroristes maison”. These made in France terrorists start as petty thieves, are de-Islamicized and then re-Islamicized by neighborhood imams and most of all by the devastation wreaked by the Empire of Chaos and NATO over the lands of Islam”. [1]
“The conquest of Algeria by France takes place in several distinct stages of the landing of the African army in Sidi Ferruch June 14, 1830, under General de Bourmont until the formal surrender of Emir Abd el-Kader to the Duke of Aumale, on 23 December 1847. This conquest ended with the annexation of Algeria to the French Republic, through the creation of the French départements in Algeria in December 1848 “. [2]

FrenchAlgeria

Illustrated by this photo of two French soldiers toying with their prey, the rape of Algeria lasted more than a century. The extreme brutality of this conquest recalls another – that of Italian Libya – a North African territory conquered by the Kingdom of Italy, after the 1911 Italian invasion of Ottoman Tripolitania. Exactly100 years later Muammar Gaddafi is put to death by forces supported by NATO. An event filmed [3] showing the Libyan being sodomised shortly before he is executed – probably on orders from Sarkozy’s secret service. [4]

People commemorate suffering. The legacy of the Algerian War of Independence brings to mind the bloodshed and bitterness on each side of the Irish Sea after centuries of colonialism going back to Anglo-Norman times.

Cherif and Said Kouachi were of Algerian descent. Something which hasn’t escaped the eagle eye of renowned British journalist Robert Fisk – fin connaisseur of the Arab world – given the spelling of their family name [5] His article retraces links between the attack by the two brothers and the French-Algerian conflict (1954-1962).

Dieudonné arrested over Facebook post on Paris gunman

French comedian Dieudonné M’bala M’bala has been arrested for being an “apologist for terrorism” after suggesting on Facebook that he sympathised with one of the Paris gunmen, a judicial source has said.Prosecutors had opened the case against him on Monday after he wrote “Tonight, as far as I’m concerned, I feel like Charlie Coulibaly” – mixing the slogan “Je suis Charlie”, used in tribute to the journalists killed at magazine Charlie Hebdo, with a reference to gunman Amédy Coulibaly. Dieudonné was arrested on Wednesday.

One wonders what “apologist for terrorism” may additionally include. When Hollandedelivers weapons to terrorists in Syria isn’t he also an “apologist for terrorism”?

Defending the racism of Charlie Hebdo is seen as heroic but criticizing Zionist racism in Israel is not allowed?

France now deploys 10,000 soldiers and 5,000 police to protect “Jewish sites”. Meanwhile 26 places of worship for Muslims have been attacked and 34 have been threatened.

Liberté and égalité are supposed to be center tenets of France. They are now completely out of whack.
