Genocides, Not Wars, by André Vltchek

Western Wars, Not Really Wars

In ancient times, even the greatest bandits such as kings and conquerors, deranged knights and simple arch-brigands, used to lead their armies into battle. It would be unthinkable for them to hide behind; it would be so shameful!

The Queen or a lady of his heart would embrace the warrior, or throw her scarf at his feet, or collapse in real or staged grief. And the warrior, often a nitwit and idiot, but a warrior nevertheless, would saddle his horse, salute his wife and his people, and go to battle, proudly leading his troops. And the chances were he would die during the battle. Therefore, he would think twice before leading his country to a war.

There used to be great pathos in all this, and also, great unpronounced rule: you want to murder, rape and steal, then be prepared to spill your own blood and brains!

Of course the priests and preachers hardly went to battles. While Christianity was behind most of the outrageous conquests and crimes against humanity, its leaders were living a safe life in tremendous palaces and villas. Only those who enjoyed the actual acts of torture and rape went to the field. But the Christian clergy almost always consisted of liars and cowards, and torture was done in safety, far from the trenches.

Murdering Journalists…Theirs and Ours, by William Blum

Making the World Safe for Capitalism

After Paris, condemnation of religious fanaticism is at its height. I’d guess that even many progressives fantasize about wringing the necks ofjihadists, bashing into their heads some thoughts about the intellect, about satire, humor, freedom of speech. We’re talking here, after all, about young men raised in France, not Saudi Arabia.

Where has all this Islamic fundamentalism come from in this modern age? Most of it comes – trained, armed, financed, indoctrinated – from Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria. During various periods from the 1970s to the present, these four countries had been the most secular, modern, educated, welfare states in the Middle East region. And what had happened to these secular, modern, educated, welfare states?

In the 1980s, the United States overthrew the Afghan government that was progressive, with full rights for women, believe it or not , leading to the creation of the Taliban and their taking power.

Whiplash!, by Dmitry Orlov

Whiplash-Injury-Lawyer

Over the course of 2014 the prices the world pays for crude oil have tumbled from over $125 per barrel to around $45 per barrel now, and could easily drop further before heading much higher before collapsing again before spiking again. You get the idea. In the end, the wild whipsawing of the oil market, and the even wilder whipsawing of financial markets, currencies and the rolling bankruptcies of energy companies, then the entities that financed them, then national defaults of the countries that backed these entities, will in due course cause industrial economies to collapse. And without a functioning industrial economy crude oil would be reclassified as toxic waste. But that is still two or three decades off in the future.

In the meantime, the much lower prices of oil have priced most of the producers of unconventional oil out of the market. Recall that conventional oil (the cheap-to-produce kind that comes gushing out of vertical wells drilled not too deep down into dry ground) peaked in 2005 and has been declining ever since. The production of unconventional oil, including offshore drilling, tar sands, hydrofracturing to produce shale oil and other expensive techniques, was lavishly financed in order to make up for the shortfall. But at the moment most unconventional oil costs more to produce than it can be sold for. This means that entire countries, including Venezuela’s heavy oil (which requires upgrading before it will flow), offshore production in the Gulf of Mexico (Mexico and US), Norway and Nigeria, Canadian tar sands and, of course, shale oil in the US. All of these producers are now burning money as well as much of the oil they produce, and if the low oil prices persist, will be forced to shut down.

Witches Sabbath from Paris to Kiev, by Dagmar Henn

Fair is foul, and foul is fair:
Hover through the fog and filthy air.
(Macbeth)

We’ve already become accustomed to press reports of happenings and hearing the statements of our politicians as something seen through a camera obscura – passing them through a very small hole at first, and then looking at them upside down (which in this case nearly generates a kind of truth). But during the last few days the gyrations performed with definitions and invocations have turned so wild, moved around so incessently that it takes one’s breath away and any clear image dissappears in the whirl.

First the coalition of defenders of western values invoked these values on a street in Paris. In short succession after that came the jubulation by the hired butchers of words over the choice of the “Unword of the Year[1]“, making the whole bunch feel ennobled while the same motive used for the uplifting of the presstitutes became a completely irrelevant footnote when dealing with the brown shirted view of history presented by the Ukrainian ally. And even human compassion, although it appeared briefly on the frontpages after the Paris assault, was hurriedly sent back into hibernation, considering the continuous artillery barrage of Novorossija. It makes one long for a slow motion button, or at least a vow not to take in more than one of these twistings at a time, just to keep one’s sanity.

What a jubilation arose after the word „Lügenpresse“ (press of lies) was elected to be the „Unword of the Year”. It had been, so the the jury´s statement, „a keyword for ideological attack already during WWI and was also used by the Nazis to generally defame independent media.“ And suddenly they all felt independent, the scribbling serfs of Springer and Bertelsmann. It came about so easily.  The jury described „a general defamation on the part of the independent media, because the overwhelming majority of their representatives try to counter the intentionally incited fear of an alleged „islamisation of the Occident“ with neutral presentation of social issues and a differenciated sight.“ Deutsche Welle, all those months prematurely yearning for a status of war correspondent, built the bridge between the French community’s  western values to the choice of the „UNword“ straight away. You can only observe with stunned amazement how the inhabitants of the media trenches define themselves as „critical media“ and, after launching a continuous barrage of sheer twisted reality, still have the daring to decorate themselves with sentences like this one:

Because, what is the consequence of a term like  „press of lies“? It means that there is only one writing the truth and that is the only truth.  But the pluralism of democracy opposes this single truth.“

Art Has to Fight for Justice, by André Vltchek

photo

It was 30th May, deep autumn in Argentina. The streetlights had been turned on an hour earlier, just as I was entering the house/museum. Now inside, it was dark, silent, warm and cozy.

Magda Konopacka de Bruzzone brought two cups of tea upstairs, after locking the gate. For a while, we sat in silence.

“Now tell me about the world outside,” she whispered, after I took my first sip.

“People are freezing to death,” I said. “Argentinean people are dying.”

She looked at me and then her eyes moved somewhere behind, way beyond me.

***
She was the love of his life.

To me he was one of the greatest artists of 20th century Latin America. His name was Alberto Bruzzone. Magdalena was his last wife, his muse, his model, and his companion – his everything for the last 3 decades of his life. They met when he was in his late 50’s and she was still a very young woman. They never separated. He died in 1994, here, in Mar del Plata, at the age of 87. She turned their entire house into a stunning museum and cultural center: into “Casa Bruzzone”.

Hostilities grow in Ukraine

Source: Anti- Fascist

This article is a machine translation from Google

Fascism

KIEV “war party” preparing a military coup. Sure, the US curator, stand behind NEW Maidan, is also presented it as the top democratic procedures.

In Kiev Popular Assembly will meet at the initiative of the Council of the maidan. Traitor Council Petro Poroshenko Maidan announce “people’s impeachment. But with this and will interchange all the drama called “The End of Ukraine.”

Panic has swept the capital’s elite, which began en masse to evacuate. In all directions. Time is short, because the parliament approved a decree on the mobilization, according to which a call fall all men between the ages of twenty and sixty years. And women too, so the border in the coming days will be closed. Optimists argue that it is necessary to wait until March, and then somehow “resolve.” Pessimists do more dire predictions: it’s all for years, the country will finally turn to Syria. But all sources are unanimous: the country will begin a bloody mess. On the basis of leaks from the knowledgeable circles, we obtain the following very apocalyptic picture.

About a tenth of February to begin the aggravation under the slogan of “treason to the ideals of the Maidan.” Occasion – anniversary of the “revolution of dignity.” In form it will be armed coup. Hence, its methodology. The need for constant “extras” in the central square of the capital is not. Is that on the stage of the process started. The main subjects of the coup will “volunteer battalions.” They will act quickly and decisively, fulfilling orders “cartridges for traitors to spare.”

The Coming War between America and China – the new documentary project from John Pilger

Source: John Pilger

C27

‘Journey’ is an overworked word these days, but I can think of none other to describe the making of a documentary film. Ten years ago, a film of mine could be made in six months, even less. The main work was the research, the journalism.Whenever I felt confident I had the basis of a ‘story’, I would go to the ITV Network in the UK and seek a broadcast commission. If that was forthcoming, ITV would fund the production. The difference now is that I, the film-maker, must raise most of the production money. Also, my documentaries have changed considerably in recent years. They are now made for the cinema as well as TV, and for the internet.

I’ve made three films this way, The War on Democracy (2007), The War You Don’t See (2010) and Utopia (2013). Utopia took more than two years to make.

In raising the money for these films, I’ve been fortunate to find sympathetic philanthropists and foundations, and persuade them to contribute without attaching any editorial strings. But these benefactors are rare, and tracking them down is probably the hardest part of film-making now and, frankly, not the kind of work I ever saw myself doing – I’ve always preferred simply to do the job I knew – journalism.

Hypocrites Shine on Paris Catwalk, by Pepe Escobar

The Paris unity march attended by over 40 world leaders has revealed the Western “double standard” approach concerning the freedom of speech and the battle against terrorism.

BEIJING, January 12 (Sputnik) — What an unrivalled parade of political hypocrisy. The sight of General Hollande, Conqueror of Mali; David of Arabia Cameron; Angela “Let Eastern Ukrainians die” Merkel; Ahmed “Assad must go” Davutoglu; even King Sarko the First, Liberator of Libya; not to mention Bibi “Final Solution” Netanyahu – all marching for “freedom”, “free speech” and “civilization” against barbarism in the streets of Paris would make every stalwart of Western intellectual tradition, from Diogenes to Voltaire and from Nietzsche to Karl Kraus, cringe in disgust.

Seen from Asia, this political hijacking seemed even more grotesque. And no wonder a mixage went viral across Southwest Asia – home of Arab social networks; the “march for unity” in Paris coupled with Hitler and the nazis strutting their stuff with the Eiffel Tower in the background. Here’s the whole “freedom of expression” debate in a nutshell. Would that ever be allowed in the front page of a Western newspaper, satirical or otherwise?

One of the greatest tricks the ruling elites of Western civilization managed to pull off has been the myth of “free speech” – on a par with the myth of a “free” market. “Free”, yes, but to the extent the Masters of the Universe allow it. Any speech that blasts Atlanticist rackets – geopolitical or economic; exposes double or triple standards; and details really serious stuff – from financial crimes to war crimes and, crucially, Western-sponsored terrorism – is ruthlessly silenced.

OPEN LETTER TO THE SAKER from Paul Matthews

Chechen leader blasts Europe over double standards on terrorism

“Peace and stability are more important for all peoples than the right of a handful of journalists to disrespect the Prophet …”. Head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov.

Terrorists More Offensive than Cartoons, Says Hezbollah Chief

“The behavior of the takfiri groups that claim to follow Islam have distorted Islam, the Koran and the Muslim nation more than Islam’s enemies … who insulted the prophet in films… or drew cartoons of the prophet”.
Lebanon’s Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah

Dear Saker,

Amen to, and a BIG thankyou for, all the spot-on analysis, provided with dignity, courage and knowledge about the ‘orchestrated hysteria’ in France. The level of ignorance among some of your numerous commentators makes me cringe. To follow your own line of thought, they are either terrified, full of hate or have stopped thinking. Among the boobies, hate and fear mongers and the braindead, they can’t all be French. But, discounting possible trolls, those that are in any of these three categories seem to have left their senses and have let their feelings run away with them. Time to see the wood for the trees.

In your most recent posts you make a thoroughly commendable stand against islamophobia and racism. This has cost you and us the French Saker blog which has been deliberately wiped, then put offline, by a treacherous member of that team, So that the entire contents dating from mid-June must be considered lost.

RT blithely announces Charlie Hebdo’s next edition is to have Muhammad cartoons, but demurs from broadcasting news that, in the name of Free Speech, Ukrainian PM Arseniy Yatsenyuk re-writes history to claim that in WWII the USSR invaded the Ukraine and Germany, As the Junta shells the Donbass (again).
